Legacy Giving and Securities
Legacy Gifts
A legacy gift is a great way to make an impact helping others and giving back to your community. Through planning and preparation, your can continue to impact those facing mental illness and addiction long into the future.
Here are some things you can do to establish your own legacy:
- Prepare a will.
- Leave a gift in your will for the not-for-profit organization that makes a difference in your life.
- Leave a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your assets to a not-for-profit organization.
- Consider using assets for your legacy gift.
- Name a not-for-profit as a beneficiary of your RRSP, RRIF or pension plan.
- Name your favourite not-for-profit as the beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy.
- Purchase a new life insurance policy naming your favourite not-for-profit as the beneficiary.
- Remember loved ones with memorial gifts.
- Encourage family and friends to leave gifts to not-for-profit in their wills.
- Ask your financial or estate planning advisor to include charitable giving as part of your financial plan and to incorporate in their counsel to other clients.

Gifts of Securities
A gift of publicly traded securities, mutual funds or stocks is simple and offers valuable benefits. And, your donation today will go to work immediately transforming the lives of the people we serve at CAMH.
The benefits:
- It's easy - securities can be transferred electronically;
- You can donate stocks, bonds, mutual funds, bills, futures and/or warrants;
- By giving the securities directly to the CAMH Foundation, your taxable capital gain is eliminated (click here for an illustration);
- You receive a charitable tax receipt for the fair market value of the stock upon transfer;
- If your donation exceeds the amount eligible for a tax credit in the year your gift is made, the excess credit may be carried forward up to five years;
- Your estate will receive the same tax benefits if you leave securities to the CAMH Foundation through your will.
